Keeps skin under and around your beard healthy
If you have a beard or have attempted to grow one in the past you know about beard itch. There are several reasons why your beard could be itching and men of color have to add to that list because of the unique nature of our hair and the way it grows from the follicles. An itchy beard for us can be due to ingrown hairs, dry skin under the beard or beard dandruff (<- yes it's a thing). Fortunately Beard Oil goes a long way in remedying each of these afflictions.
For ingrown hairs beard oils that contain fruit oils like Orange Bitter oil, Bergamot, Blood orange and Grapefruit oils help to exfoliate the skin. Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin which allows the hair to grow more readily out of the skin instead of back into it. This is especially helpful if you have ingrown hair growing on your beard line or have persistent flair ups under your beard hair from your pre-beard days.

Dry Skin and Beard "Dandruff"
If your beard oil contains moisturizing agents like golden Jojoba oil and/or coconut oil this can help keep your skin moisturized. This is especially important if you're living in a colder dryer climate. If you're like most seasonal beard growers this moisturizing effect comes in handy just around the time you're most likely to be growing your beard, between October and Early January. This same moisturizing effect goes a long way to prevent "beard dandruff" or flakes of dry skin falling off into your beard from lack of moisture.
Beard oil gets you a healthy, soft, lush beard
Beard oil is miraculous in that it works to keep the skin under your beard and your beard hair healthy. Both are key to maximizing beard growth and ensuring you develop a beard the world will envy. One reason for an unhealthy looking beard is split ends. They are not just on your head!
You see the more split ends you have in your beard the rougher it will feel to the touch. There are several reasons why your beard may have split ends. I'll outline them in a later blogpost. Beard oil also helps get rid of split ends by making sure the beard hair itself is moisturized, as dry beard hair = damaged beard hair and damaged beard hair just like damaged head hair tends to split. If you're serious about growing your beard split end reduction is important and using a beard oil acts as a preventative measure so you won't have to trim your beard before its time. Less trimming, more growing.
Beard oil also helps soften your beard hair. Dryness also impacts beard feel and as I mentioned above beard oil goes a long way towards moisturizing both your beard and skin.
Helps keep beard clean, bacteria free and smelling great
Let's not fool ourselves, unless you are living somewhere extremely cold your beard is always uncovered. This means your beard is constantly acting like a face net catching food, bacteria and wind blown particles throughout the day. Beard oils work great here in that they often have antiseptic ingredients, like tea tree oil, that help kill stray bacteria which may also cause an off smelling beard. Furthermore essential oils like tea tree oil and peppermint oil help keep your beard smelling fresh. These same essential oils also help clear the pores under your beard clear and help reduce the occurrence of acne.
What are you waiting for? It's time to try your first beard oil.
